International Museum of Women’s Muslima exhibit
I’m an ambassador for “Muslima: Muslim Women’s Art & Voices.” Part online exhibit, part call to action, Muslima features an evolving collection of art and stories from Muslim women all over the world who are defining their own identities and defying negative stereotypes. muslima.imow.org
Last night I had the pleasure and honor of doing a spoken word piece with four other participants from the Muslima exhibit. We performed at jointly written poem a fundraising gala for the museum in San Francisco. The performance piece, co-written by all eleven participants from the Bay Area is about the diversity of our collective identities and backgrounds and challenges mainstream media’s construction of Muslim women.
